La version de browning
(the browning version)

This French production was shown at the THEATRE DE LA COMMUNE in Aubervilliers, France, from 28th November 2005 to 23rd December 2005.

This story of an unpopular and unloved schoolmaster has been filmed once before - with Michael Redgrave - and staged many times, notably at the National Theatre, London, with Alec McCowen. Reviewing a 1994 revival, The Times, wrote: 'The cruel inequalities of love always absorbed Rattigan; and not least here... This is a play that has no date'.

Set in the 1930s, Terence Rattigan's play finds Gregor Antonescu, a powerful financier, visiting his estranged son Basil at his Greenwich village apartment in an attempt to extricate himself from the most catastrophic disaster of his career.

Starring David Suchet and directed by Maria Aitken, the production opened at the Duchess Theatre on 1st February and will run for ten weeks.
